Position: Community Lead
Reports To: Director of Resource and Shelter Services or Program Coordinator (as designated)
Position Status:
Hours include a predetermined / set schedule that includes week and/or weekend hours to fit your availability. Temporary, Part-Time positions as available. Anticipated operation dates for the Warming Center begin approximately October 10, 2026, until on or about May 1, 2027, although positions may conclude earlier or later. Warming Center Operational hours are 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 a.m. nightly. Irregular work schedules include nights, early mornings, weekday and / or weekend hours, and may include holidays. Shifts vary between the hours of 5:30 pm-10:30 am.
Training is mandatory for the position. Paid Training is the week of October 5 - 9.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
$21.00 — hourly
Job Summary:
The Warming Center is a program operated through the Flathead Warming Center Board of Directors, providing the homeless population a warm and safe place to stay from 6pm to 10am (October to the end of April). The Warming Center Community Lead ensures the center is managed in a way that provides safety and protection for all guests, volunteers, staff, and the facility. Ensures that shift operations are carried out accordingly from time of check-in to time of check-out. Community Lead positions develop a strong sense of community inside the shelter.
Specific Responsibilities
Supervises facility activities to ensure the safety of residents.
Enforces shelter rules uniformly and consistently. (Fair, Firm, and Consistent)
Build community and foster dignity inside the Warming Center, as learned in staff training.
Conducts in-take and orientation of guests.
Performs opening and closing duties including: distributing and setting up sleeping supplies at night; the following morning clean up.
Responsible for maintaining accurate guest records and nightly logs both manually and using web-based and/or computer programs. Reviews past logs to remain knowledgeable and up to date on guests.
Respects strict code of confidentiality regarding guests and fellow staff members at all times.
Responds appropriately to needs and crisis situations, such as mediating basic interpersonal problems between residents and summoning emergency personnel if necessary.
Provides advocacy, information, and referral services to guests.
Provides crisis intervention and risk assessment for guests.
Coordinates with other social service agency workers to provide for guests needs.
Assists in maintaining facility in a clean, sanitary, and safe condition.
Responsible for knowing and following Warming Center’s policies and procedures.
Works as a team with other colleagues and volunteers on shift and be able to work independently without direct supervision.
Strictly abides by confidentiality, professional boundaries, and the FWC code of conduct
Developing positive working relationships with Warming Center guests, while maintaining appropriate boundaries as learned in staff training.
Attend staff meetings and trainings.
Represents the organization professionally at all times.

Physical/Mental Requirements:
The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee, with or without accommodation, to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Hearing and vision adequate for interaction with guests, staff, volunteers, and the general public.
Ability to walk, bend, stand, sit, reach, stoop, pull, sit, and squat.
Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds.
Reasoning ability to make decisions that reflect consistency with The Flathead Warming Center’s philosophy, policies, and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED.
Knowledge of services available to low-income and homeless persons in Flathead County through local social services agencies or the demonstrated ability to obtain such knowledge.
Demonstrated ability to work independently. Ability to appropriately assess a situation and take corrective action as necessary.
Demonstrated ability to provide crisis intervention and to follow procedure in crisis situations.
Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
Good computer skills. Familiarity with Google Docs, with data collection programs, Microsoft Excel and Word.
Preferred Bachelor’s degree in related field.
Preferred one to two year experience working with vulnerable populations, people who are homeless or low-income or who have issues with chemical dependency, mental health, domestic violence and/or sexual assault.
